I love family movies. They’re far and few in between these days. But tonight, December 3, 2010, we have a great family movie lined-up for you. Tune in to NBC at 8 p.m. and watch A Walk In My Shoes, starring Nancy Travis (The Jane Austen Book Club, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, 3 Men and a Little Lady), Philip Winchester and Yara Martinez.
The movie is a joint production sponsored by Proctor & Gamble and Walmart. It’s the “third installment of their Family Movie Night Initiative, which was launched last April in direct response to research which revealed that parents across America are seeking more family-oriented entertainment to enjoy together.” (Quote taken from a recent press release.)
The other two films in the Family Movie Night Initiative are Secrets of the Mountain and The Jensen Project. They’re family adventures that are beloved by both parents and kids.
We Reel-Scout folks (with many little ones in our various households) are just glad that there are more quality movies that everyone in the family can watch together over home-popped popcorn.
“The whole film was shot and set in Portland. Even better was the fact that the entire crew with the exception of the DP and Accountant were from Oregon,” said Vince Porter, executive director of the Oregon Film Office, on his Confluence blog. “I also know that quite a few local actors were hired to be in the show.”
It’s a thought-provoking film about a dedicated, stressed-out high school teacher (Nancy Travis) who’s upset at her students’ indifference and lack of effort toward their education, and their parents’ non-chalant attitude about the same problem. She suspends one of her students (a popular skateboard and basketball star) for underperforming in class and blames the situation on his parents. After a dramatic turn-of-events, she begins to see that there’s more to the other side of the story.
As the main characters dealing with their haunted pasts and earning wisdom for their present, we will be on our own inspirational journey watching A Walk In My Shoes with the people we love.
So stay home tonight. Gather your family around at 8 p.m. Tune in to NBC. Family Movie Night is back!
